The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is set to provide a cash assistance of P15,000 to small and micro rice retailers as part of the Sustainable Livelihood Program. DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian has announced that the distribution will commence tomorrow, starting at public markets in Quezon City, Caloocan City, Manila City, and San Juan City.
The distribution event at Commonwealth Market in Quezon City and Maypajo Market in Caloocan City will be led by Secretary Gatchalian and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Fred Pascual. Prior to this, Secretary Gatchalian, along with the DSWD-SLP team and DTI officials, collaborated to finalize the list of rice retailers affected by the price ceiling implementation on regular milled and well-milled rice, in accordance with Executive Order No. 39 issued by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.
Secretary Gatchalian also highlighted that even sari-sari stores situated in proximity to wet markets and public markets are eligible to receive a subsidy of P5,000 under the Sustainable Livelihood Program.
