Terror Threat in Bohol: Abu Sayyaf vs AFP

Bohol Philippines is worldly known as top tourist destination, were you can find the famous Chocolate hills and popular white sand beaches in Panglao Island and Anda Beach. Bohol is located at Central Visayas area, four hours away from Cebu City through Ferry boat ride.

Earlier today, April 11, 2017, hundreds of people vacate their homes in Inabanga, Bohol as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and PNP (Philippine National Police) clashed with suspected Abu Sayyaf Group. (9) Nine People were reported killed during the firefight (5) Five of those killed were suspected Abu Sayaff while four (4) others were from the government troops - one from the PNP, three (3) from the (AFP).

The PNP Chief - Bato Dela Rosa said that the fully armed men encountered by the PH government troops were suspected Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) because of the way they operated and how they entered the place - thru boat via Inabanga river.


The U.S. Embassy, United Kingdom, Canadian government, and  Australian government issued warning to its citizens against travel in Central Visayas that includes Cebu and Bohol, and other parts of Southern Mindanao particularly in Zamboanga and Sulo, due to an "unsubstantiated yet credible information" of terror threat in the area, but the Local government of the Bohol thru - Bohol Governor Chatto - released a statement that there is nothing to worry about as the incident is "contained". In addition the AFP also said that the Government security forces will simply reinforced the vigilance of the Boholanos who organized themselves into a strong force to keep the province safe from any threat group.


UPDATE APRIL 12, 2017
The French Embassy in Manila also releases a travel advisory, citing “credible reports of threats of kidnapping by terrorist groups in the Central Visayas, particularly in Cebu and Bohol.”

The Armed Forces of the Philippines - AFP confirms the death of the terrorist leader of Abu Sayyaf - Muamar Askali, alias Abu Rami. Government troops are still tracking 5 Abu Sayyaf members who survived the firefight.
