Filipinos are preparing for The 'Big One'


Surigao Earthquake

Early this year, the Philippines already experienced strong and destructive Earthquakes. On February 10, 2017 at 10:03 in the evening the people of Surigao City was struck by 6.7 Magnitude earthquake,  hundreds of people were hurt and 6 reported dead, bridges were also damaged, including the bridge at San Francisco Anao-aon, were the epicenter located.  It was also felt in neighboring provinces and cities. On March 05, 2017 Sunday morning another 5.6 magnitude rocked Surigao Del Norte, commercial buildings and houses were reported wrecked during the shaking.

People were filled with fear and speculations in anticipating for the 'Big-One', Social Media posts exploded during these days, and some are predicting a massive calamity will happen this month of April 2017.

Bohol Earthquake

Last 2013 the 7.2 Magnitude shaken Bohol on 15 October at 8:12:32 PST, an island province located in Central Visayas, Philippines.

Today, the people of Bohol is already recovering from the tragic experience, churches were on progress in rebuilding and restoring.

Batangas Earthquake 

The most recently earth shaking was report last April 4, Tuesday night in Tingloy, Batangas, at a depth of 5 kilometers with 5.5 Magnitude, which puts the entire province of Batangas under state of Calamity. Dozens of tremor were also felt.

Another twin earthquake felt in Mabini, Bantangas last April 8 2017 with magnitude 5.9 and in Bagalangit village at 3:08 p.m., with a magnitude of 5.7, according to United States Geological Survey.

Solidum said they were looking at movement of the Lubang fault or another nearby local fault as the cause of the tremor.

Philvocs said on Tuesday’s quake may have been caused by movement in the Lubang fault and is not related to the West Valley Fault, a major fault that Phivolcs warned could move anytime, the citizens of Batagas are now vigilant, filled with fear but their faith are not shaken, they said.

Thing To Do Before And During Earthquake




The “duck-drop-over and hold” is most basic exercise during the shake then move to a safe area after the shaking.

 [1] "INDOOR" When you are inside your house or building
  • Stay away from glass, windows, outside doors and walls, and anything that could fall, such as lighting fixtures or furniture.
  • Stay in bed if you are there when the earthquake strikes. Hold on and protect your head with a pillow, unless you are under a heavy light fixture that could fall. In that case, move to the nearest safe place.
  • Do not use a doorway except if you know it is a strongly supported, load-bearing doorway and it is close to you. Many inside doorways are lightly constructed and do not offer protection.
  • Stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Do not exit a building during the shaking. Research has shown that most injuries occur when people inside buildings attempt to move to a different location inside the building or try to leave.
  • DO NOT use the elevators.
  • Be aware that the electricity may go out or the sprinkler systems or fire alarms may turn on.

If you are outdoors during an earthquake




  • Stay there.
  • Move away from buildings, streetlights, and utility wires.
  • Once in the open, stay there until the shaking stops. The greatest danger exists directly outside buildings, at exits and alongside exterior walls.


If you are in a moving vehicle during an earthquake


  • Stop as quickly as safety permits and stay in the vehicle. Avoid stopping near or under buildings, trees, overpasses, and utility wires.
  • Proceed cautiously once the earthquake has stopped. Avoid roads, bridges, or ramps that might have been damaged by the earthquake.
If you are trapped under debris





  • Do not light a match.
  • Do not move around or kick up dust.
  • Cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing.
  • Tap on a pipe or wall so rescuers can locate you. Use a whistle if one is available. Shout only as a last resort. Shouting can cause you to inhale dangerous amounts of dust.
These are simple and easy reminders for all, most importantly is you keep calm and think quickly.
